Ecuador’s tourism balance had a positive balance of 63.2 million dollars. With this, the sector ranks as the fourth source of non-oil income for the nation
During the first semester of 2022, Ecuador’s tourism balance had a positive balance of 63.2 million dollars. With this, tourism ranks as the fourth source of non-oil income for the nation.
When compared with the numbers for 2019 and 2021, these figures show the favorable reactivation of the industry.
Foreign exchange earnings from tourism, from January to March 2022, reached 313.5 million dollars, more than double what was obtained in the same period of 2021.
Likewise, in the first quarter of the year, sales in the sector recovered by 91% compared to 2019, and presented a growth of 62% compared to 2021.
The arrivals of foreigners to the country from January to June 2022 presented a recovery of 45% compared to the same semester of 2019 and a growth of 155% in relation to the same period of 2021. The United States continues as our main source market of travelers with a participation of 37.7%, followed by Colombia, Spain, Peru, Canada and Germany.
During the first five months of the year there is evidence of constant growth in terms of employment generation in the sector, related to accommodation and food services. An example of this is May 2022 when 83,662 more jobs were registered than what was recorded in the same month of 2021.
The commitment and effort of the private sector, as well as the allocation of more than 47 million dollars by the Government of President Guillermo Lasso, have been key factors in promoting Ecuador as an unmissable tourist destination for the world and a vehicle for conservation and national development.
