The Guatemalan airline prepares the operation of its new Guatemala-Mérida and Guatemala-Oaxaca routes
2022 will be a year of great challenges and opportunities for aviation and international tourism, and will mark the takeoff of the sector in the post-pandemic stage, said Julio Gamero, CEO of TAG Airlines, the Mundo Maya airline.
He said that the company welcomes 2022 as a year of challenges, while informing that TAG Airlines is preparing the details for its new route that will connect Guatemala City with Mérida, Yucatán, which will begin operations in the first quarter of this year with four weekly frequencies and competitive rates. The new Guatemala-Oaxaca route will also be announced.
Julio Gamero announced that for this year TAG Airlines will continue the expansion of its operations in the south-southeast of Mexico, with the firm commitment to strengthen air connectivity in the Mayan World, promoting the development of the aviation and tourism industry. , which are two important engines for economic growth.
With this objective, the airline will strengthen the promotion and relations with commercial partners and tour operators, through its participation in international fairs such as FITUR, ANATO and the Tianguis Turístico México 2022, among others.
Taking stock of the actions undertaken by the airline, he highlighted that during 2021 TAG Airlines consolidated its international presence with the start of operations in Mexico, through different routes that connect the Central American country with the states of Quintana Roo and Chiapas, which at the moment they report an occupancy of more than 90 percent.
Last August, TAG Airlines launched its first two routes in Mexico, with the Guatemala-Tapachula and Cancun-Guatemala flights, routes that benefit tourists and businessmen who travel to both destinations.
In addition, on December 1, the route that connects the city of Cancun, Quintana Roo, with Flores, in the Guatemalan Petén region, was put into operation. This route is of special importance, since it connects the Mexican Caribbean with the most emblematic archaeological zone of the Mayan World: Tikal.
The Mundo Maya region has become a benchmark for travel and tourism at a global level, and TAG Airlines has the firm objective of continuing to strengthen connectivity in this region.

It currently operates 27 daily flights in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Belize and Mexico, with a modern fleet of more than 20 aircraft.
