St. Maarten introduces a new food festival, revives another

The St. Maarten Tourism Bureau has declared November as the island’s culinary month, and the country is tucking into at least three food-focused festivals.

St. Maarten will host its inaugural St. Maarten Flavors food festival throughout November to showcase its diverse culinary scene.

Some 40 restaurants will offer prix-fixe menus; offerings will range from samplers or one-course bites starting at $17.50 to full three-course dining experiences at $49.

In addition to showcasing food specialties, restaurants will offer additional entertainment and activities, from live music and DJ sets to sushi-making classes.

International chefs have an opportunity to showcase their skills at the culinary festival Fete de la Cuisine, which is making its comeback on the island from November 4 to 12 after a five-year absence. The festival is a partnership between St. Maarten and neighboring French St. Martin, and participating chefs and mixologists will hail from New York, the Netherlands and Curacao.

Scheduled events include a wine pairing and a six-course meal led by seven international chefs, spirits tastings and fundraising dinners. Proceeds from the event go to local hospitality and disability awareness charities.
Divi Little Bay Beach resort is offering special rates for stays during Fete de la Cuisine.

In Saint Martin, the second annual Festival Gastronomie will take place Nov. 11 through 22.
