September has been the best month in the history of tourism in the Dominican Republic

The record arrival of tourists generated revenues of more than US$6 billion

Despite the effects of storm Fiona, Dominican tourism reached record numbers again, with the arrival of 430,129 tourists in September, 106,467 more than in the same month of 2019.

In a press conference where the statistics of the arrival of visitors corresponding to the ninth month of the year were offered, Minister David Collado also reported that in the January-September period the sector generated more than 6 billion dollars and that forecasts that the year will end with foreign exchange earnings exceeding US$8.4 billion.

“It’s something extraordinary, reaching record numbers after being hit by a storm. This shows the strength and resilience of our tourism,” said the official, who was accompanied by representatives of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (ASONAHORES), of the country’s Airport Association, as well as businessmen and officials from the sector.

It was also highlighted that 5,334,291 visitors arrived in the January-September period of this year, some 346,596 tourists more than the 4,987,698 in the same period in 2019.

Meanwhile, hotel occupancy at a general level for this month of September has been 61% with a housing availability of 91%.

For the Cruise sector, in September 2022, 50,423 cruise passengers arrived, with Puerto Plata being the destination with the highest arrivals with the port Amber Cove 28,439, Taino Bay 16,028, La Romana 4,019 and Sans Souci 1,939 travelers.

Meanwhile, in the satisfaction surveys of some 25,996 respondents, 91% would return to the Dominican Republic and another 84% would recommend visiting Quisqueya.
