The Spanish hotel chain obtained the highest rating in the CDP index for involving its suppliers in the fight against climate change
Meliá Hotels International has been recognized as a Supplier Engagement Leader by CDP, an international organization specializing in environmental impact, thanks to its commitment to the fight against climate change and its efforts to involve its suppliers in reducing CO2 emissions from your value chain.
This recognition comes from Meliá Hotels International obtaining the highest rating in the areas related to the supply chain within the CDP Climate Change questionnaire, in which the company participates annually, which is called the Supplier Engagement Rate (SER). . Specifically, obtaining the “A” rating by Meliá is based on its good performance in the areas analyzed for it: governance, objectives, accounting for scope 3 emissions, supplier commitment and score obtained in CDP Climate Change.
Meliá Hotels International is aware that it is not only necessary to work to reduce emissions generated by direct activity, it is also necessary to establish emission reduction targets in the supply chain through collaboration with suppliers. For this reason, the company has taken actions such as the implementation of COUPA, a purchasing tool that provides more information about the product, allowing its carbon footprint and the characteristics of the materials and packaging to be known. One of the company’s priorities is to advance in hotel decarbonization, adhering to international commitments to reduce CO2 emissions based on objectives scientifically validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), the global alliance that promotes actions against climate change among the business sector. Currently, the Company has reduced its scope 1 and 2 emissions by more than 50%, compared to the base year. Along these lines, Meliá is also advancing in the purchase of green energy from renewable sources for its hotel portfolio, with its use in all destinations where it is possible, and it is already the only one consumed in 100% of its hotels in Spain. , Germany, UK, Italy and France.
