January registered the best reactivation in the flow of Colombians abroad

Taking into account that 2021 closed with a 67% reactivation in outbound tourism compared to 2019, the year 2022 showed a good start, reaching 88% in January, if contrasted with the same month of 2019

The pandemic has not been the only aspect that has impacted the travel industry, the volatility of the exchange rate has also been a determining factor in the reactivation process.

January 2022 was characterized by a high dollar, whose average was $4,000.72 and in which the maximum value was presented on the 5th with a rate of $4,084.11, this being higher than that of any day in 2021.

Taking into account that 2021 closed with a reactivation of 67% in outbound tourism compared to 2019, the year 2022 showed a good start reaching 88% in January, if contrasted with the same month of 2019, being the main international destinations most visited United States, Mexico and Spain, with growth of 6.5%, 44% and 4.2% respectively. However, one of the countries that reported the highest growth was the Dominican Republic, with 68%.

“In January, very good results were presented in the flow of Colombians abroad despite a high dollar, and the revaluation of the peso, which is expected to continue during the following months, would continue to encourage outbound tourism, where Travel Agencies They will play a very important role as guides and professionals in travel planning”, explained Paula Cortés Calle, executive president of ANATO.

The positive results are also attributed to the progress in the reactivation of international air connectivity, which the country had in January, where there were 1,051 direct weekly frequencies to 42 cities in 25 countries.

It should be noted that as of March 10, the rate stands at $3,746.43, which means that, compared to the maximum value of 2022, the peso appreciated by 8.3%, compared to January 5. “Despite this, we see that the interest of Colombians in traveling abroad continues, and this, added to the services of the Travel Agencies that they value the most, such as low prices, tailor-made trips, have generated greater confidence to continue reserving”, affirmed the union leader.
