The countries of destination that Colombians visited the most for reasons of tourism, events and business were Mexico, the United States and the Dominican Republic
Outbound tourism continues on a positive path. Despite the volatility of the dollar, 2023 begins by demonstrating the interest of Colombians to continue planning trips abroad, which has allowed Travel Agencies and other tourist service providers to verify the recovery in the sector and from this way to continue designing packages according to current market trends.
“Colombia has been fortunate to have an acceleration in the behavior of tourism. We have not only seen this with the data from official sources in the sector but also in the recent 42 ANATO Tourism Showcase, where the participating businessmen expressed the good moment the travel industry is going through”, explained Paula Cortés Calle. , executive president of ANATO.
According to ANATO calculations, based on figures from Colombia Migration, in January 2023 470,675 Colombians left abroad, which represented a growth of 22%, when compared to the same month of 2022, and 7% with that of 2019.
In addition, compared to the destination countries that Colombians visited the most for tourism, events and business reasons, Mexico led the list with a 22% share; followed by the United States with 21%; and the Dominican Republic, with 10%. It should be noted that some of the countries that revealed the highest growth in the arrival of Colombians during January, compared to the same month of the previous year, were Ecuador with an increase of 166%; Argentina 80%; Dominican Republic 69%; Brazil 61% and Panama 42%.
However, when talking about the flow of Colombians abroad by region, South America ranks first with an increase of 88%; Europe with 38% and Central America and the Caribbean, with 29%, if compared to January 2022.
“It is time to take advantage of the fact that there are fewer and fewer countries that require a visa for travelers from our country. Even now, it is possible to enter destinations such as Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay only with the digital ID, which facilitates travel to nearby places with great tourist wealth”, concluded the union leader.
