Hotel PMS must be redefined to survive the new era of travel

According to Phocuswright, artificial intelligence is emerging as the center of this transformation

Phocuswright, the leading global authority on travel industry research and producer of the annual Phocuswright Conference, has urged the hospitality industry to rethink traditional property management systems (PMS), and embrace AI to leverage data in real time and transform hotel operations.

The Phocuswright Conference, taking place in Fort Lauderdale from November 13 to 16, under the theme You, Me & the Machine, will explore the enormous possibilities of AI in the travel sector. One of the main areas of interest of the event is hospitality. Entrepreneur Richard Valtr will star in one of the main Center Stage sessions to talk about how artificial intelligence is redefining hotel PMS.

“The post-pandemic travel industry is on the cusp of unprecedented change due to the rapid advancement of AI, which means the hospitality industry faces new challenges and opportunities,” said Gene Ko, chief marketing and communications officer. by Phocuswright. “Today, hotel operators have unprecedented access to real-time and forecast data. However, they need the ability to translate it into actionable insights that can be applied to daily operations.” Traditional PMS, accustomed to making operational decisions based on historical data, is no longer up to the task. “It must be redefined to enable hotels to survive and thrive in this new era of travel.”

Attendees at the Phocuswright Conference will learn about Valtr’s startup Mews, a technology company that uses artificial intelligence to rethink physical spaces, services and hotel guest experiences. Its future-oriented PMS is already in operation in more than 3,500 of the world’s best hotel brands.

“The PMS must bring together operational, labor and revenue data,” Ko continues. “When every aspect of the system is connected, leadership can view the operation holistically, can respond to the precise situations that develop each day – and a new type of decision making can happen.”
