David Collado is committed to turning Santiago into a great tourist destination

The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic reaffirmed his commitment to the city in the northern region of the country

The official has been present at the 25th edition of Expoturismo, where he affirmed the commitment to turn Santiago de Los Caballeros into the great tourist destination of the northern region of the country.

Collado, who attended the opening of the event in the company of his MITUR work team and the Tourism Cabinet, received recognition from Expoturismo and the Santiago Tourist Destination Cluster for his efficient management at the head of the Ministry of Tourism.

As well as, having coordinated the effective performance in the recovery of the country’s tourism in the midst of the pandemic, an action valued in forums and by international organizations.

The official proposed the creation of a tourism development plan for Santiago to bring together the Ciudad Corazón all the potential of tourist attractions that the region has together with the joy and warmth of its people.

He stated that, “having concentrated on the recovery of our sun and beach tourism through Punta Cana, where 50 percent of all foreigners arriving in the country arrive, now, we have to deal with the essence, the beautiful , our culture, our people and all of that is in Santiago and all of Cibao”.

As part of the tourism promotion plans for this city, Minister Collado announced the contribution of 50 million pesos for the promotion abroad of the attractions available to the city of Corazón.

“I want to invite the head of the city, Mayor Abel Martínez, to receive us with the clusters and the different associations to make a tourism development plan, here in Santiago,” he said.

“We are going to develop a joint work plan and the Ministry of Tourism is going to put 50 million pesos on the table to promote the city of Santiago internationally,” announced Minister Collado after thanking the recognition that was granted to him by the Santiago Cluster and Expoturismo in its version 25.

He valued that what has been done with the recovery of tourism has been “something transcendental and spectacular” and that it has been the result “of what happens when Dominicans come together and embrace an issue such as tourism.

Present at the opening ceremony, Mayor Abel Martínez assured that Santiago is already a tourist destination given the drive and development shown in recent years and that Expoturismo is a clear example of the hard work to achieve growth in Santiago.

In the same aspect, Ramón Paulino, president of Expoturismo, highlighted the excellent air and land connectivity of the city in the contribution of more than 1,300 hotel rooms and endless riches in natural resources, ecotourism, history, culture and gastronomy.

To be held until Sunday, June 5, Expoturismo brings together hotel companies from all over the country, tour operators and more than 150 travel agencies, and the support of clusters from the different provinces of Cibao, informed Yomaris Gómez, executive director of Expoturismo.

Gómez highlighted the support in the event of the Ministry of Tourism as an official sponsor and that “embraces this project as one of its strategic allies.”

The inaugural act of Expoturismo 25 Aniversario was attended by businessmen, government officials and representatives of the tourism sector of this city and the North region, having as a meeting point the Convention Hall of the Gran Almirante hotel.

Recognition

Minister Collado received a plaque of recognition from the president and executive director of Expoturismo, Ramón Paulino and Yomaris Gómez; the Director of Marketing for Hodelpa Hotels, Jessica Ajá and Ricardo Fondeur, president of the Council for Strategic Development of Santiago.

One of the considerations in the distinction awarded to Minister Collado expresses that he has stood out “for the implementation of successful strategies, which today, with the support of the Tourism Cabinet led by President Luis Abinader Corona, and coordinated by him, are responsible of the sustained recovery of the confidence achieved and the security of foreign investment in Dominican tourism.
