Authorities and entrepreneurs from Mexico and Belize work on the creation of multi-destination products

Both countries seek to promote tourism and connectivity in the short and medium term

As part of the Operation Knock on Doors work tour in Belize, the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, held meetings with authorities, tour operators, representatives of chambers of commerce and businessmen from the transportation sector, to work on the development of multi-destination tourism products and the strengthening of air and land connectivity between Mexico and Belize.

Accompanied by the Mexican ambassador to Belize, Hon. Martha Zamarripa Rivas, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) offered a press conference in which she shared the actions that are implemented in Mexico to promote sustainable tourism, which cares for the environment and allows its benefits to reach the entire population. population; through anchor products and high-impact events, through which the activity is diversified towards the 235 places with a tourist vocation in our country.

He stressed that the Operation Knocks on Doors tour in Belize is intended to undertake actions that trigger tourism between the two countries, supported by the close ties that unite the two nations and the great tourism product that the Mundo Maya region represents, through the creation of multi-destination products adapted to the profile of the new traveler, who is looking for new experiences and greater contact with nature.

The Secretary of Tourism held an important meeting with Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Immigration of Belize; and Anthony Mahler; Minister of Tourism and Youth of Belize; with whom he discussed options to facilitate the flow of Mexican and Belizean tourists in both directions.

Eamon Courtenay stressed that, to strengthen the tourism industry between Mexico and Belize, work must be done on three issues: investment in tourism developments; ground and air connectivity; and the exchange of technology, training and experiences

He stressed that there are many coincidences between the two countries, not only in relation to the Mayan World, but also in tourist attractions such as the jungle area, and the options for fishing, diving, ecotourism, among other nature tourism activities.

Before tour operators and representatives of Belizean chambers of commerce, the head of Sectur presented the strategic projects of the Government of Mexico in tourism, such as the Mayan Train, a work that will consist of 1,554 kilometers of route that will connect the five states of the southeast of Mexico: Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan and Quintana Roo; through 20 stations, and in whose route 190 tourist attractions will be located; which will boost tourism and the region’s economy.

The businessmen agreed on the need for synergy on the development of tourist products of the Mayan World and its promotion; as well as promoting the creation of multi-destination tourism products; and they evaluated the areas of opportunity represented by health and business tourism between both countries.

Torruco Marqués engaged in a dialogue with Raúl Keme and Shanna Pott, directors of Maya Island Air; Emanuel Trejo, from Tropic Air; Kenton Wade of VIP Elite Tours; as well as Nigel Carter, COO of the Department of Civil Aviation of Belize; and Ramón Cervantes, Minister of State, to strengthen the ties of cooperation that allow the promotion of air connectivity between Mexico and Belize.

The Secretary of Tourism also presented an award to chef José María Ibarra Becerra, from the Ochuna restaurant; for contributing to the promotion of the gastronomic culture of Mexico abroad.

The delegation that participates in Operation Knocks on Doors in Belize is made up, among others, of the Undersecretary of Tourism, Humberto Hernández Haddad; and the General Director of Promotion and International Affairs, Emmanuel Rey.

As well as Andrés Gerardo Aguilar Becerril, Undersecretary of Planning and Tourism Development of Quintana Roo; Atenea Gómez Ricalde, municipal president of Isla de Mujeres; and Yensunni Idalia Martínez Hernández, municipal president of Othón P. Blanco.

The private initiative of the tourism sector is represented by Héctor Tejada Shaar, president of Concanaco Servytur; Julio García Flores, general manager of the Caribbean Region of Mobility ADO, among others.
